He repackaged abstract ppm into a "Sigma Level": 3σ ≈ 67,000 defects per million, 4σ ≈ 6,200, 5σ ≈ 230, 6σ ≈ 3.4.
The executive team saw it instantly — going from 3σ to 6σ isn't "half as many defects," it's "four orders of magnitude fewer."

常见误用Common Mistakes
DPMO 直接换 Sigma Level 不加 1.5。流行口径"6σ = 3.4ppm"已含 1.5 shift,自己算时务必明示是含 shift 还是短期。

Applying the 1.5 shift to every situation. Services and healthcare are usually more honest with the short-term (un-shifted) figure — otherwise you overstate true capability by a full 1.5σ.
Sigma Level 5.5 跟 6 差不多。5.5σ ≈ 32 ppm,6σ ≈ 3.4 ppm,差近 10 倍;σ 等级是对数刻度,小数点也很贵。
