1984 年,物理学家 Eliyahu Goldratt 把工厂管理写成了一本小说《目标(The Goal)》。厂长 Alex 在带童子军徒步时突然开窍: 队伍走着走着就散了,最慢的 Herbie 走多快,整队就只能产出多快 —— 后面的人追得上、前面的人却只能干等。 这跟他的工厂一模一样:唯一该盯的不是每个人多努力,而是那道最慢的工序。改善非瓶颈,等于白费力气。约束理论(TOC)由此诞生。 In 1984, the physicist Eliyahu Goldratt turned plant management into a novel: The Goal. On a boy scout hike, the plant manager Alex has a sudden realisation: the column keeps falling apart, and whatever pace the slowest scout — Herbie — walks, the whole troop produces at exactly that pace. The boys behind can catch up; the boys in front have to stand around and wait. His factory is no different — the thing to watch isn't how hard everyone is working, it's the slowest operation. Improving anything else is wasted effort. That insight became the Theory of Constraints (TOC).

其他人能走多快无关紧要 —— 整队产出(红线)始终卡在最慢那根柱子的高度。让快的人更快,只会让队伍散得更开。 How fast anyone else can walk is irrelevant — troop throughput (red line) is permanently pinned at the height of the shortest bar. Make the fast scouts faster and you only stretch the column further.

3 现实里的 Herbie Herbie in the Real World

产线瓶颈:一条装配线的产出,等于产能最低的那台机器。其余机器再快,只是在它前面堆库存。 The line bottleneck: an assembly line's output equals the throughput of its lowest-capacity machine. Every other machine just stockpiles WIP in front of it.
急诊分流:急诊吞吐量被 CT 室或床位数卡死。多招护士不能加快出院 —— 那不是约束。 ER throughput: an emergency department is capped by CT-scanner time or bed count. Hiring more nurses won't speed up discharge — they aren't the constraint.
软件交付:一个团队的发布速度,常被测试或代码评审这道最窄的环节限制,而非写代码的速度。 Software delivery: a team's release cadence is usually capped by QA or code review — the narrowest stage — not by how fast people can write code.
高速路堵车:通行量取决于最窄的那段车道,拓宽别处毫无用处 —— 找到"收费站"才是关键。 Highway congestion: throughput is set by the narrowest stretch. Widening anywhere else is useless — the trick is to find the "toll booth."

常见误用Common Mistakes
到处催进度、让每个人都更努力只盯约束(Herbie);非约束再快也不增加系统产出。 Chasing everyone for progress and pushing everyone harder. Focus only on the constraint (Herbie). Speeding up non-constraints adds nothing to system output.
把"最忙的人"当成瓶颈瓶颈是限制整体产出的环节,前面会堆在制品 —— 看堆积,别看忙碌。 Mistaking "the busiest person" for the bottleneck. A bottleneck is whatever caps overall output, and you spot it by the WIP piling up in front of it — look at queues, not at how busy people look.
给非瓶颈环节加产能、买设备钱要花在约束上;投资非约束只会换来更多库存。 Adding capacity or buying equipment for non-bottlenecks. Spend the money on the constraint. Investing anywhere else just buys you more inventory.
